Pre-reading Activities
- Information gap activities are a great way to present new information about the characters, animals or the setting of a story. But, they are difficult to set up. Not to worry. We have a template already laid out in Microsoft Word for you.
- Prediction Scaffold: Once the students meet the characters and get to know the setting, they can predict what the story may be about. This reading strategy also will provide a great opportunity for interpersonal communication. The Predict the Story handout scaffolds their predictions and supplies common expressions that they will need to discuss their ideas.
- Action Play: Use the target language to talk about the props. Then, guide the students to act out the story. To include more students, ask them to play to role of plants or landforms. Download a quick planning template to get started.
- Signaling: Students use small flashcards or gestures to show that they understand key vocabulary.
